Kotelna is a conversion project that transformed a 19th-century steam power plant into a modern office building, reflecting Karlín Group’s significant impact on the rejuvenation of the Karlín district. The project pays homage to the building’s industrial past, not only through its name but also by preserving several original features, including the tall brick chimney that rises above the surrounding rooftops.

Claudio Silvestrin

Claudio Silvestrin is an internationally recognized Italian architect known for his contemporary minimalist design. He founded Claudio Silvestrin Architects in 1989 in London, with an additional office in Milan since 2006. His most notable work includes the Museum of Modern Art in Turin and various stores for Giorgio Armani.

Designed by Claudio Silvestrin, the interior was transformed into a dynamic three-level office space, with a central atrium that maximizes natural light through large windows. The minimalist design contrasts with the preserved industrial elements, such as the chimney, a large skylight, and the original façade and windows. The chimney space itself was left completely open, transforming it into a gallery space, serving as a filter between the external environment and the interior office areas.
