The first modern student dormitories in Prague offer their residents a standard that was once unimaginable. The Student House, designed by the successful Czech studio Pavel Hnilička Architects + Planners, embraces urban style. Simple, bright façades along the line of the street, a prominent corner, a glazed ground floor, and tree-lined avenues contribute to the urban environment of Holešovice.

Pavel Hnilička Architects+Planners

Pavel Hnilička Architects + Planners is a productive and successful architecture office led by the architect Pavel Hnilička, who has been working for the past 25 years on both architecture and city planning and development. He has succeeded in competitions and authored several publications (Sídelní kaše) and policy documents (Prague Building Regulations). The office has contributed to successful residential projects (the Újezd nad Lesy residential complex) as well as urban planning solutions (Vítězné náměstí in Prague Dejvice).

The new dormitory concept, in addition to rooms with kitchenettes and private bathrooms, provides everything young people need for social interaction – a large hall, spaces for sports and entertainment, services, quiet corners, and closed study rooms. The social areas open onto a garden and terrace with views. Staircases with elevators in the atrium create a vertical communication environment that fosters a sense of community. The building also features an underground garage and a bike storage room.
The initiative came from the Karlín Group and was later joined by the German company International Campus, which purchased the building and operates it as its first project in Central Europe within the international student housing network ‘THE FIZZ’.
